JOB SUMMARY:

Promotes quality patient care through the safe transportation of patients to and from the Medical Imaging department utilizing appropriate techniques, established guidelines, and age specific guidelines. Maintains knowledge of proper oxygen tank handling and body mechanics and applies such knowledge in the day-to-day performance of duties.

SHIFT DETAILS:

  • Part-time, weekends.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Consistently supports and communicates the Mission, Vision and Values of St. Joseph Medical Center.
  • Follows the St. Joseph Medical Center Guidelines related to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), designed to prevent or detect unauthorized disclosure of Protected Health Information (PHI).
  • Promotes a culture of safety for patients and employees through proper identification, proper reporting, documentation and prevention of medical errors in a non-punitive environment.
  • Uses good body mechanics when moving patients to and from stretchers/wheelchairs, with emphasis on patient safety, comfort and privacy. Must be able to manipulate oxygen hookups, portable IV pumps and O2 canisters correctly and maintain rigid adherence to department safety standards.
  • Remains alert to changes in patient's condition during transportation and notify appropriate personnel if changes are observed.
  • Responsible for appropriate equipment selection, cleanliness of equipment, returning equipment to proper areas, reporting and removing all substandard equipment. Makes periodic round throughout the hospital to retrieve department equipment.
  • Reports back to Radiology Control Room immediately after the completion of a trip unless dispatched to another location.
  • Consistently able to respond to high volume situations in addition to routine schedule without sacrificing accuracy/quality.
  • Displays a cooperative attitude and communicates effectively with customers. Displays a professional demeanor when interacting with patient/family and remains sensitive to family's needs if they choose to accompany the patient.
  • Consistently a log in trip time accurately, communicates delays, equipment changes and cancellations to the technologist, as they occur to expedite transport.
  • Supportive of the compliance program set forth by St. Joseph Medical Center and demonstrated by:
    • Upholds the Standards of Conduct and Corporate Compliance.
    • Adheres to and helps to enforce all compliance policies relevant to his/her area.
    • Assures timely compliance with education as requested by the Education Department and Safety Officer and/or through corporate initiatives.
  • Sets an example for all staff in their daily activities.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Work Experience:

  • One year work experience.

License/Registration/Certification:

  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support Certification.

Education & Training:

  • High School Graduate/GED.

Skills:

  • Technical, critical thinking and interpersonal skills relevant to area to effectively communicate with physicians, health team members, patients and families.
  • Ability to prioritize work with minimal supervision, to independently carry out the duties of the position.
  • Able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Additional languages a plus.
  • Basic computer knowledge.
  • The ability to lift objects weighing up to fifty (50) pounds required.
