Job Duties & Responsibilities:

The Medical Assistant (or Clinical Support Staff) plays a vital role in patient care and clinic operations, performing a variety of clinical and administrative tasks, including but not limited to:

Patient Care & Clinical Support:

• Prepare patients for examination by escorting them to exam rooms and ensuring comfort.
• Obtain and accurately record patient vital signs, including height and weight.
• Verify and update patient medication lists and preferred pharmacies in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
• Document chief complaints (CC), pertinent patient information, and patient assessments.
• Perform phlebotomy and prepare specimens for transport. (lab draws)
• Educate patients on lab result retrieval processes, including in-office follow-up requirements (typically 1-2 weeks) or online portal access.
• Administer and document screening tools, such as depression and alcohol screens, in the EMR.
• Apply appropriate coding (e.g., CPT, ICD-10) for nurse visits and lab draws.

Medication Management & Authorizations:

• Process medication refill requests in a timely manner, adhering to a 48-hour turnaround time.
• Coordinate and submit prior authorizations for medications as required.

Clinic Operations & Maintenance:

• Maintain a clean, organized, and stocked clinical environment, including exam rooms and procedure areas.
• Perform sterilization of medical instruments according to established guidelines.
• Manage incoming communications by checking voicemails twice daily and responding appropriately.
